Division
The MR2 OWNERS' CLUB OF AUSTRALIA was formed by a few keen enthusiasts after a TOYOTA sponsored driver education day at Calder raceway over ten years ago! It is the oldest official MR2 club in the world. The first meeting was held on 28 June 1991 at Dandenong, subsequent meetings have been held at the TOYOTA CONFERENCE CENTRE Port Melbourne, until recently, when we decided to adopt a more informal approach. They are now held on the LAST WEDNESDAY of every even month (except December) back in Dandenong. The August meeting is set aside for our AGM. The MR2 OWNER'S CLUB OF AUSTRALIA caters for all TOYOTA MR2s, both the AW11 (1985, 1987 Australian delivery to 1990) to the SW20 (1990 - 1999) and most recently, the new Spyder. The Club has a Monthly Run 2.......which is a Sunday drive to a lunch destination. Members take turns at organizing this event. We meet outside Duttons in Church St Richmond, at 10am on the LAST Sunday of each month. We host events such as Navigational Rally's, Hillclimb's and 1/4 mile sprints. Our club is not financially large enough to host circuit events and we rely on invitations from larger clubs such as the HDT/HSV, Alfa Romeo and Honda Clubs for such events. Each year we meet with the NSW club in Canberra for a weekend of events. We have regular contact with other overseas clubs, in particular the Dutch, English and German Clubs. There is also a Internet MR2 Group, information from which is disseminated to the club via the monthly newsletter. The Dutch club maintains close contact with the chief engineer of the MR2 since visiting the factory a few years ago, we also maintain contact with this gentleman. The MR2 Club is Incorporated and affiliated with Confederation of Australian MotorSport. A CAMS basic or superior is mandatory to take part in competitive club events. Events organised cater for all interests, from picnics and BBQ's, Social Outings, Road rallies, Car Trials, driver Education, motorkhana's and Motor racing. COME JOIN US, WE KNOW YOU'LL HAVE FUN AND
BETTER APPRECIATE THE UNIQUE QUALITIES OF YOUR MR2!

MR2 Club of Australia, New
South Wales Branch
Following a Toyota Australia sponsored Driver Training Day at Calder Park in early 1991, a group of enthusiastic owners got together with the idea of forming a club. With assistance from Toyota by way of mail outs and provision of a meeting venue, The MR2 Owners Club of Australia (Victorian Branch) Inc. was formed in June 1991. The first official event was a drive day to Sorento outside Melbourne in September 1991 with a total of 18 cars including 5 AW11 Model MR2's (1985-89) and the balance SW20's (1990 +). Further north in Sydney in May 1992 after being approached by a keen MR2 owner, Toyota Australia and the Victorian branch assisted him in setting up a New South Wales branch of the club. A Mail out resulted in the first NSW run with 13 cars in attendance for a drive day to Jenolan Caves, west of Sydney. After forming a committee from some of these owners the MR2 Owners Club of Australia (NSW Branch) Inc was also formed in late 1992. Today both branches have between 35-50 members each. They participate in a wide range of activities including Driver Education, club level motorsport, picnic drive days, technical evenings and weekends away including interstate activities with both branches. The club aims to appeal to enthusiastic owners who see their car as more than just a means of transport and enjoy social activities involving motorcars, and like minded people. Many of the clubs members also benefit
greatly form the Driver Education activities which improve members skills
on the road and help to create safe better drivers.

| ACT MR2 Owners Club
ACT club had been part of NSW group previously. By 2004, as the number of members increase, the club decided to separate from NSW club and hold their own events more closer to home. The club is running as a social club for MR2 enthusiasts who are either interest in modifying their MR2s or who simply love driving MR2s. The club values all types of MR2s whether they are modified or stock. Luckily Canberrans can enjoy great mountainous roads and scenary right on their door step, in Brindabellas and outskirts of Canberra. The club hold regular cruises, track days and numerous other social car-related events, along with our sister-club Canberra Celica Group. The club is not CAMS affiliated and hence does not run competitive events. |
Queensland MR2 Club
MR2 Club of Queensland invites you to join them on their monthly cruise days. We operate out of the forums on the www.mr2.org.au which is Australia wide. The site is also good for asking mechanical and non-mechanical questions alike. The Mr2 club of QLD is a great chance to see other people's Mr2's and ask as many questions as you'd like. From performance to looks, there will be someone there to help if you wish. The age group in the club ranges from 18-56, so age is no barrier. Basically all we want to do is get as many Mr2's in one place at one time and go driving. The club organises a different place each month so it's also a great way to see our great QLD SE countryside. We have been invited to many car club and specialty events and so if you wish to join us, you can contact the President at j70aw@bigpond.com, or simply join the forums and make yourself known to the other Queenslanders there. There is no obligation to join, no membership fees and no stress. Love to see you. Drive on! Jonathan Waite (club President) |
